How To Lose Weight With Thyroid Problems

Many people with thyroid problems struggle with their weight. I know this because I have struggled with my weight for more than 25 years and I have an underactive thyroid. I know many other people with thyroid problems as well who tell me the same story. If you are like I was, you may have had so many unsuccessful experiences with losing weight that you kind of gave up and believed that because of your thyroid problems you would always be overweight. This doesn't have to be the case. Are you ready to learn how to lose weight with thyroid problems? I am here to tell you that I have learned how to lose the weight despite my thyroid problem and I would like to share this information with you.

First, you need to contact your physician and have your thyroid levels rechecked. This is the most important thing that you should do before beginning the process of trying to lose weight. The guidelines for thyroid levels have changed and your tests may show that you need more medication to be in the proper range. If you are still within the proper range after being tested, talk with your doctor about what you are wanting to do. Tell him that you are trying to lose weight and you want to be sure that you are doing all that you can to be successful. The doctors know that your metabolism is affected by your thyroid levels. Let him know if you are feeling tired or cold, if you are having problems with constipation, dry skin, blood pressure, etc.

Sometimes your thyroid levels can be changed based on your symptoms rather than the blood test results. You and your doctor might decide that a small increase in your dosage while you are trying to lose weight might be helpful with a promise from you that you will get re-evaluated periodically throughout the process.

Once you get your thyroid levels at their optimum level for weight loss, you need to start doing the things that will get your metabolism fired up. Anyone wanting to lose weight needs to do some exercise. If you can do your exercise in the morning then you will start your metabolism early in the day and it will continue to burn all day long. If you wait and do it in the evening then go to bed shortly afterwards, your metabolism slows down quickly and you won't burn as many calories.

Another way to crank up your metabolism is by eating smaller meals or snacks more frequently. Your body starts burning calories with the first meal of the day. If you do not overwhelm your digestive system with too much food at once, it will stay in a constant state of digestion, burning calories from the food that is given to it at 2 -3 hour intervals. On the other hand, if you overeat, your body's digestive process shuts down and starts converting the extra food into fat.

Find out how many calories you should be consuming for your gender, current weight, and height. Use this amount of calories to plan your meals and the amount of exercise that you should be doing each day to be successful with your weight loss. Plan meals that include high fiber foods so that you will feel full longer and keep your digestive process working longer. You also need to drink plenty of water..

These are just a few of the things that you can do to learn how to lose weight with a thyroid problem. Because thyroid problems slow a person's metabolism, doing things to increase your metabolism is one of the most important things that you need to do to be successful with your weight loss.
