Many children are having fun and keeping fit with Central Jersey gymnastics. This sport has its roots in ancient Greece and has been popular for generations. Both boys and girls can participate and there are specific competition events for them. Gyms throughout the state cater to kids at every level.

Over the centuries their skills have developed into the modern sport of gymnastics. The aim is to complete a difficult set of moves that includes tumbling, vaults, balance exercises and jumps. These all require excellent physical strength, combined with flexibility and confidence. Many youngsters find that after training for a few months their all round confidence has improved dramatically.

The sport requires a lot of dedication and hard work. Most programs are at least twice a week, whilst those in competition may need to train six days each week. Some children get up early to go to the gym before school. Others attend training sessions in the evening for several hours. It is a great way to learn about commitment and also make some new friends.

The uneven bars are another piece of equipment that requires a lot of confidence. A set of move are made that take the gymnast over, under and between the bars. Timing must be perfect or the athlete will fall. During competitions when the tension is high, it is very difficult to keep a clear head and execute a perfect routine. Even the most experienced competitor can make mistakes and mistime a move.

Boys and young men also enjoy the challenges of gymnastics. They have a different range of competitive moves. They work on the pommel horse and rings. The rings require incredible strength, plus agility and confidence. It takes years of training to be ready for the big competitions. The pommel horse is another test of strength and stamina. It takes a highly skilled person to be able to execute a good routine and get a high score.

Gymnastics have been practiced for centuries. The sport was developed by the ancient Greeks. Their soldiers trained very hard and devoted their lives to the military. The moves they need to use on the battle field were developed into the modern sport we know today. The Greeks competed against each other for bragging rights and glory. Their legacy continues today in gyms around the country.

Modern gyms have a lot of equipment. The floor is very important and must be specially constructed with springs to give it a firm but flexible work area, with some bounce. This helps the gymnasts reach extra heights during their floor exercises. During competition they must perform a ninety second routine that includes tumbling, jumps, dance, turns and pivots. They are accompanied by music and must perform with a high degree of artistry.

There are many excellent Central Jersey gymnastics facilities to choose from. Some are more focused on competition than others. It is a good idea to look at several different gyms to find the right one. Asking friends for a recommendation is also a good idea. Attending a program gives children the opportunity to learn a great new sport and at the same time get a lot of valuable exercise.
