Using a stationary bike provides a good workout with very little stress on your body, as the bike will support the majority of your weight. Your growing belly may also place stress on your back, making it important for you to begin slowly and take care not to work yourself too hard.

Low-impact aerobics are a safe way to get a workout without leaving your home and are generally safe for both you and your baby. These workouts may consist of performing movements that you remember from previous workouts or purchasing a DVD containing workouts specifically designed for pregnant women. Alternatively, you can turn on your stereo or pop in your favorite CD and dance around as you do housework or anything else you may be doing. The American Pregnancy Association recommends avoiding any type of high-impact aerobics as the speed of the exercises along with all of the jumping around and bouncing may potentially harm your baby.

Walking

Walking is a beneficial exercise for anyone, especially those who are pregnant. According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, walking briskly around the house or on a treadmill provides you with an exercise that works your whole body and is gentle on your muscles and joints. Walking is an ideal way to begin exercising, especially if you were not exercising before you were pregnant. It is also typically safe to run during your pregnancy, especially if you regularly ran before becoming pregnant. You may need to make some adjustments to your routine and check with your doctor to address any potential complications.
